Stereotypes in Writing Characters

For my essay, I am going to focus on stereotypes. I would love to talk much more in detail about plots. cliche and tropes but I think that is way too many thing to cover in a 3000 essay; it would be great to explore them next year, which I will consider once this year is over.

Stereotypes already gives me plenty to talk about, which I can link to different media, feminism and any particular types of characters I want to explore. I found that strangely, there aren't many female anti hero characters if any in popular media and that would be worth looking at. Why are female characters written so badly, never even mind the design or lack of female characters.

I want to look at some
film statistics
characters throughout games, animations, comics and film
What stereotypes are
Why stereotypes are used
Is this a good/bad thing/how does it affect society
How/why could this be fixed
Does this situation seem to be getting better or worse?

I'm going to look at books, online articles, blogs, websites and whatever magazines I can find to help me explore this. Hopefully this will help me think over how and why I am making characters in whatever I make in the future, and inform my choices much more.

A few ideas I have had for the practical side so far are:

- Character design
- expressions
- turnarounds (animated?)
- action poses
